India’s Vice President meets with students and faculty of Armenia’s YSU
Yerevan State University (YSU) of Armenia on Wednesday hosted a meeting between Vice President of India Mohammad Hamid Ansari and the students and faculty of the university, Panorama.am reports.
At the beginning of the event, YSU Vice-rector Gegham Gevorgyan briefed on some episodes regarding the vice president’s biography and political activates, noting that the 80-year-old politician has assumed the post of India’s Vice President since 2007, meantime serving as Chairman of the Upper House of the Indian Parliament. Gegham Gevorgyan also said that prior to taking the post of the vice president, Hamid Ansari was engaged in diplomatic work.
India’s Vice President in his turn welcomed the attendees, noting that he is pleased to be in Armenia.
“I am happy to be in this ancient country. The generation gathered in this auditorium wants and can make a difference. And the cooperation must be based on peacebuilding changes. The 2008 financial crisis made us all face difficulties, however together we managed to overcome it. This period of globalization emerges numerous difficulties, which are today handled by the man, since the human being is the most precious value,” Mohammad Hamid Ansari noted.
Following the vice president’s speech, the students addressed questions to him. One of the questions was addressed in the vice president’s native language (Indian) and refereed to the Indian language teaching in Armenia and Armenian language teaching in India to promote the cultural ties between the two languages. “The first step is that you speak [Indian] and addressed your question in Indian. We have students who study here and have already managed to learn your language,” Hamid Ansari said.
At the end of the meeting, YSU Vice-rector Gegham Gevorgyan grated Honorary Doctorate Degree to Mohammad Hamid Ansari.
