Stefan Schennach suggests inviting representative of Nagorno Karabakh to PACE
“Yes, we are going to work openly on issues of Nagorno Karabakh as well as Transnistria, Abkhazia, and South Ossetia,” member of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), member of the Sub-Committee on Conflicts between Council of Europe Member States Stefan Schennach told Panorama.am in an interview on Thursday in Strasburg.
Mr Schennach’s reply came to question over the possibility of inviting a representative from Nagorno Karabakh to the meeting of the sub-committee.
In MP’s words, it is important to lo listen to the views of all conflicting sides. “Certainly, we have also invited the so-called authorities of Transnistria. We should invite all the parties to the conflicts,” Schennach said.
Speaking of Turkey, following the PACE decision to reopen the monitoring procedure in the light of serious concerns about respect for human rights, democracy and the rule of law in that country as well as the threats of the Turkish delegation to boycott the upcoming sessions, Schennach said: “We regret that; however, the organization has standards. Turkey is one of the founding members of the Council of Europe, which even further makes them abide to the rules. A Monitoring procedure is a natural process with different types, and even my country Austria, Germany last year were under monitoring. I think they should cooperate,” the MP said, adding the Assembly is a home of values, human rights, and democracy.
