Trilateral meeting of Russian, Armenian and Azerbaijani FMs to focus on confidence-building measures – Sergey Minasyan
The trilateral meeting of Armenian, Azerbaijani, and Russian FMs scheduled for Friday in Moscow will focus on arrangements over the confidence building mechanisms at the Line of Contact between Nagorno Karabakh and Azerbaijan, deputy head of “Caucasus” Institute Sergey Minasyan told Panorama.am.
“Azerbaijan gave consent to those proposals after the Vienna and St. Petersburg meetings which were line with Armenia’s, Russia’s, and international community’s position. I think, if we fail to live up to the agreements on confidence building measures, no progress is expected in the negotiation process itself,” stressed the political scientist.
Minasyan pointed out Russia’s immense efforts toward establishment of the confidence building measures after the April war.
“Tomorrow’s meeting may bring nothing. Alternatively, Azerbaijan may display some gestures of democratic diplomacy aimed at deescalating the tensions. However, the mechanisms of confidence building at the border are something the international community is interested most,” explained the speaker.
To remind, earlier Armenian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Tigran Balayan told Panorama.am. that upon the invitation of Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, the Armenian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers are set to hold a meeting in Moscow on April 28.
