Foreign visitors are interested in Shushi's State Museum of Geology, director says
The State Museum of Geology after Gregory Gabrieliants in Shushi last year welcomed 3491 visitors, 679 of them were foreign tourists. The director of the museum Sarasar Saryan noted the aforesaid in an interview with “Artsakhpress”, adding that especially foreign tourists show great interest towards the museum. They told about their admiring impressions not only verbally, but also they write about them in the book of impressions.
500 samples are presented in the museum, some of them are Artsakh findings, while others are mostly from the personal collection of Gregory Gabrieliants brought from more than 40 countries and about 20 regions of the Russian Federation.
“The main part of the samples is the personal collection of the academician Gregory Gabrieliants, who donated it to the museum. Explanations about the museum and samples are presented to foreign visitors in three languages: Russian, English and Spanish,” said Saryan, adding that the visitors have an opportunity to see the rocks and minerals in beautiful colors through a special device. As he noted, they get these colors due to releasing ultraviolet rays on them.
“Schoolchildren are also interested in the Museum of Geology. We have junior and senior amateur groups, 2-3 times per week they visit the museum for deeper assimilation of knowledge. They get acquainted with samples, watch videos and listen to the lectures on geology. This year we are organizing olympiad competition on Geology. Schoolchildren from Shushi, Stepanakert, as well as from the regions of Artsakh will attend the competition,” he added.
