PM, Argentina Ambassador discuss development of economic ties
Armenian Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan received Argentina’s Ambassador to Armenia Gonzalo Urriolabeitia on Friday. As the governmental press service reported, the PM noted the two countries have strong ties of friendship due to the vibrant Armenian community in Argentina.
Prioritizing the developing trade and economic relations, Karen Karapetyan pointed out that while Argentina has a significant share in the volume of foreign investment in our country, however, bilateral trade turnover is not satisfactory, and there is still much to be done to tap the full potential.
The Premier suggested organizing a business forum or Argentina open days in our country and Armenia, as well as raising awareness of investment opportunities in order to introduce the opportunities for doing business in Armenia or mastering third-country markets. In this context, the Prime Minister cited the success of Argentina Wine Week in Armenia.
Gonzalo Urriolabeitia said Argentina has always attached importance to development of bilateral relations with Armenia, which are at a high level now, stressing that efforts have to be made to ensure that this approach is equally reflected in the economic sphere. He advised that the Embassy of Argentina is actively working with the Armenian government departments to develop mutually beneficial investment projects and gave details of their progress.
The parties concurred in that that the agricultural sector is of particular importance for the Armenian-Argentinean economic cooperation. They exchanged views on agribusiness management, supply of agricultural machinery and the coordination of consultancy activities. Both sides stressed the need to take steps toward promoting tourism.
