Constitutional Court rejects ANC-HZhK election appeal
Constitutional Court of the Republic of Armenia rejected on Friday the appeal against the official results of the recent parliamentary elections held in Armenia on April 2 and upheld the final results, adopted by the country’s Central Election Commission (CEC).
The decision, read out by the Chairman of the Constitutional Court Gagik Harutyunyan considered as accepted upon publication.
To remind, Armenian National Congress (ANC) – People’s Party of Armenia (HZhK) opposition bloc, headed by the First President of Armenia Levon Ter-Petrosyan appealed to the Constitutional Court to invalidate the official results of the parliamentary elections.
The bloc, that received 1.65 percent of the vote, claimed that "large-scale and systematic violations of the electoral process, including widespread vote-buying and the intimidation of voters by government loyalists,” precluded the free expression of the people's will.
According to the Constitutional Court ruling, the arguments brought by the appealing party represent general evaluations and provide no legal basis for having considerable impact or questing the overall election outcome. The evidence attached to the appeal are taken from media publications, as well as monitoring observance of the Citizen Observer NGO, without any compelling evidence in support of the brought claims.
