Armenian official points out most dangerous labor violations
“Today the typical and most dangerous violations registered in the labor market refer to the failure of concluding an employment contract carrying out an illegal work,” Tadevos Avetisyan, Chief Adviser to Armenian Minister of Labor and Social Affairs on Labor and Employment, noted at the press conference on Monday.
He claims that this will not allow employees to defend their rights in the future.
Among the labor issues, he pointed out incomplete or late payment of wages, as well as the violation of the employee's right to rest.
“The breach of the right to rest has a great share among the registered labor violations. The violation of certain guarantees granted to social workers is of no less importance, which refers to specific groups. I also want to add the part regarding children’s working rights, the protection of which is one of the key priorities,” Tadevos Avetisyan noted, adding that the illegal dismissal of the workers at the initiative of the employers are also among common labor violations.
Asked whether changes in the minimum wage is expected in Armenia, Mr. Avetisyan said: “In the Republic of Armenia the minimum [salary] is clearly set by the law. Meantime, mechanisms are to be introduced so that the sides are able to determine various sums. The minimum salary must be distinguished based on branches, regions and professions. For this end, the sides need to put forward their arguments and counter-arguments due to collective discussions and be able to set up a specific sum of money.”
