Armenia trade unions mark Labor Day with a protest march in Yerevan
Representatives of number of Armenian trade unions are holding a march in Yerevan today on the occasion of the International Labor Day to voice concerns of the workers against the government policy.
“We insist that state is not a business Our Constitution sets that the Republic of Armenia is a social state and should be guided by that principle. Favorable conditions should be established for business, yet those conditions cannot be created at the expense of the employees’ rights, which is the case today,” reads the statement released by the organizers of the protest march.
The representatives of the unions also call on the government to strictly uphold the constitutional provisions about the humans being the ultimate value, as everything should be done for the benefit of the citizens of the Republic of Armenia.
To note, the march kick-started near the monument to Avetik Isahakyan to proceed through Tumanyan and Abovyan streets. Members of the Confederation of trade unions of Armenia (CTUA) are set to join the march in Northern Avenue and then proceed to the Republican Square.
