Sergey Minasyan: No developments expected beyond Turkish-Azerbaijani joint military exercises scenario
Joint tactical exercises launched on Monday by Azerbaijani and Turkish armed forces come to show that Turkey univocally supports Azerbaijan in the Nagorno Karabakh issue, political scientist Sergey Minasyan told Panorama.am, when asked to comment on the drills.
“The military exercises underway from May 1-5 lag behind the scope of the previous ones held by Azerbaijani Armed Forces. In any case, I do not think anything should be expected out of the scenario of the drills,” said Minasyan.
The political scientist justified his stance recalling the trilateral meeting of Armenian, Russian, and Azerbaijani foreign ministers held in Moscow yesterday, suggesting amid the talks Azerbaijani couldn’t afford more than exercises.
To remind, earlier spokesperson of Artsakh Republic President Davit Babayan commented on the drills in an interview with Panoarama.am, saying the Armed Forces of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR/Artsakh) closely follow the joint military drills of Turkey and Azerbaijan and that NKR Armed Forces always demonstrate vigilance despite everything.
“If the drills are conducted in line with the scenario, i.e. without any complications, naturally we will only follow them. In case of other developments, we will certainly take countermeasures,” Babayan had told.
