Foreign audience perceives Armenian folk music as exoticism – Tigran Hamasyan
“The folk music does not need any elaborations [since] it is ideal, established music,” world-famous pianist and composer Tigran Hamasyan said at a press conference on Friday.
In his words, making changes in the folk music must be grounded, following years of studies.
“We must not make something easy and superficial and present it to the society. This does not mean that one should be afraid to make changes. The most important thing is not to use that music, but rather to improve it and present in a new manner, brightening every note of the music,” the musician noted.
T. Hamasyan said that the Armenian folk music is perceived differently in abroad than in Armenia.
“Foreign audience perceives Armenian folk music as exoticism. My [musical] developments are rather perceived as modern music, however they are perceived as mere Armenian melodies here,” he added.
