We hadn’t the right to die, veterans recall the days of Shushi liberation
“The task to liberate Shushi was important, while the guys on their way to the battle field were sent with tears in eyes. All knew most of them would not return,” Commander of the” Armenian National Army” Special Unit, Artsakh war veteran Samvel Papazyan said at a press conference on Monday.
“The task was conducted successfully. After an hour of severe clashes numerous victims were recorded. 27 freedom fighters out of 56 who fell during the operation of Shushi liberation were from our unit, two went missing. We were attacked by large number of Azeris. We had to either fall victim or win. At the and I was injured and had the chance to see the liberated Shushi only days after the victory,” the freedom fighter recalled.
Commissar at Gardman Unit Karen Nersisyan, on his part, stressed that that when the Fatherland is in trouble, Turks couldn’t conceive they would confront to brave Armenian guys able to overcome death even at the expense of their lives.
The Head of “Support to Disabled” NGO Gagik Danielyan recalled how they learnt about the liberation of Shushi form Azeris, since their unit was fighting in different direction.
‘We realized we had no right to die. As our commander used to say, we had no order to die,” said Danielyan.
