‘Number one issue of Hrazdan River is indifference’ – project organizer
The issue of keeping Armenia’s Hrazdan River clean has brought together a group of students and teachers, who launched the initiative “River in the city”.
The organizer of the project Maral Karapetyan briefed on the implemented and planned activities at a press conference on Friday.
“The project is underway for a month already. During this period, we have managed to visit certain areas near Hrazdan River and carry out cleaning works on non-working days. Our goal is to make the river clean and attractive both for the inhabitants of our city and visitors. In addition to cleaning operations, we are always trying to keep the issue alert,” the organizer said, insisting on the continuity of this project.
In her words, when removing the wastes from the areas near the river, they try to take them to areas so that it does not cause problems to that territory as well. “When visiting a region, we try to have the educational institutions to join our project. Number one issue of Hrazdan River is indifference,” she noted.
Milena Tevatrosyan, a 10th grade student who also took part in the meeting, noted that many capitals worldwide are famous with their rivers. “Let’s make Yerevan famous with its Hrazdan, why not? The river originates from Lake Sevan and flows through Yerevan, having been ignored by its residents,” she added.
6th grade student Svetlana Melkumyan in her turn added that the project has received support from Georgia, Artsakh and Yeghegnadzor.
