Technical equipment, web cameras operate normal – CEC Chairman
All technical equipment for voter registration and the web cameras installed at polling stations operate normal in the Yerevan municipal elections, Tigran Mukuchyan, Chairman of the Central Electoral Commission of Armenia told reporters on Sunday.
Mukuchyan reminded that 474 polling stations opened on May 14 for the municipal vote in 10 electoral districts formed throughout capital city.
“All polling stations opened at 8:00 a.m. as under the procedure and within the time limits prescribed by law,” Mukuchyan said.
To remind, elections started today with three political forces running to vie for 65 seats in the Council of Elders of the capital city that will elect a new city mayor. Two political parties a one bloc need to win at least 6 percent of the vote in order to be represented in the council.
The party list of the ruling Republican Party is headed by the acting Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan. Apart from the ruling party, two oppositions forces - Yelq (Exit) bloc headed by Nikol Pashinyan and the newly established Yerkir Tsirani (Land of Apricot) party headed by Zaruhi Postanjyan participate in the municipal elections.
Mukuchyan informed that a total 308 candidates are running in the elections with 98 women nominated in the lists. CEC Chairman next said municipal elections are observed by 17 local and one international organizations.
