Voting starts in elections to Yerevan Council of Aldermen
Yerevan City Council Elections started today with three political forces running to vie for 65 seats in the Council of Elders of the capital city that will elect a new city mayor. They need to win at least 6 percent of the vote in order to be represented in the council.
The party list of the ruling Republican Party is headed by the acting Yerevan Mayor Taron Margaryan. Apart from the ruling party, two oppositions forces - Yelq (Exit) bloc headed by Nikol Pashinyan and the newly established Yerkir Tsirani (Land of Apricot) party headed by Zaruhi Postanjyan participate in the municipal elections.
474 polling stations opened at 8:00 a.m. throughout the city in the 10 electoral districts. 5138 observers from 17 local NGOs are set to monitor the vote.
Polling stations will close at 20:00.
