Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office studies 117 electoral breach-related reports
With the key priorities of properly verifying each report on electoral fraud, preventing such cases and ensuring the inevitability of holding offenders accountable for, the task force of the Armenian Prosecutor General’s Office has singled out the reports that feature evident elements of electoral offences regarding the Yerevan City Council elections.
As the Prosecutor General’s Office told Panorama.am, due to the monitoring of the numerous media reports on electoral fraud, the task force has singled out 79 reports featuring evident elements of electoral fraud.
In addition to the mentioned media reports, the force also studied 38 alerts on the same issue filed to the Armenian Police.
53 out of the total 117 electoral fraud-related reports referred to hindering voters’ free will, 14 – to cases of evident vote buying, 29 – to the free exercise of a citizen’s right to voting, as well as impeding the activities of the reporters, candidate’s trustees and observers, 20 – to voting more than once or instead of another person, 11 – breaching confidentiality of ballot, 3 – breaching the order of filing the voter lists and one to alleged confiscation of election documents.
All the above-mentioned reports were promptly sent to the RA Police, regional divisions of the RA Investigative Committee and the RA Special Investigative Service, that were tasked to verify them properly in a manner prescribed by law.
The bodies in charge of conducting proceedings were instructed to undertake urgent investigative, operative measures to uncover the details of the mentioned reports and provide a legal assessment within the shortest period possible.
