Dolls in Armenian national clothing made in Stepanakert, Artsakh
Brand dolls in Armenian national clothing are made in Stepanakert, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh). In an interview with Artsakhpress news agency, two dollmakers Syuzi and Lusine noted that they were engaged in dollmaking separately from each other before and decided to work together after getting acquainted with each other.
Syuzi noted that they make doll collections on certain occasions, adding that their first collection at the beginning if tis year referred to the New Year. “This time we have decided to make dolls in Armenian national clothing. The ornaments on the clothing are matched with the colors of the Armenian traditional costumes. Our dolls have only Armenian names, like Nane, Nare, Saten, Arpi, etc. Many people are fond of handiworks and gladly buy them. We also like to present our dolls to our relatives,” she said, adding that they dream about opening a dollmaking school, where people will be specialized in making Armenian brand dolls.
In her turn, Lusine noted that they work for 3 hours on one doll, adding that their work is not very complicated but meantime demands great efforts and attention from them.
She also noted that they took part in Shushi dolls exhibition, with their dolls rising great interest and interesting reactions. “I believe that our dolls will have a unique place and role in our cultural life. We call on the teenagers and young people to be engaged in handiwork activities like us, instead of being addicted to their conputers,” Lusine added.
