Exhibition “Van – the Lost Capital” to be opened at Erebuni museum
"Erebuni" Historical & Archaeological Museum-Reserve will unveil new exhibition on the International Museum Day to be observed on May 18. As the museum reports, the displays and posters will feature Van city and its surrounding area in its pre-history and post-Urartu periods, that had been widely known to academic circles yet closed for the public.
The exhibition will be open till June 18 with free of charge admission.
To note, Van city which is located on the eastern shore of Lake Van in the territory of Turkey has had a long history as a major urban area. It has been a large city since the first millennium BC, initially as the capital of Urartu in the 9th century BC and later as the capital city of the Armenian Kingdom of Vaspurakan. It remained an important center of Armenian culture until the Armenian Genocide of 1915.
