Lenduta Arts and Crafts Festival to be held in Gyumri, Armenia
Armenian city of Gyumri (Leninakan) plans to hold a new tourism festival. In June, an arts and crafts festival entitled “Lenduta” is set to be held in Armenia’s second largest city. The festival program features displays of the traditional arts and crafts of the city, accompanied by musical performances and concerts, reports Panorama.am.
“Why “Lenduta”? You have probably attended Ararat Sargsyan’s recent exhibition bearing the same title, which referred to Gyumri. The title is humorous in some sense. It stems from Veduta, i.e. Venice drawings, which show love towards the city. After visiting Venice, Ararat realized that Gyumri really needs love and the city deserves to be painted, thus he initiated “Lenduta” or “Leninakan paintings”,” Aleksan Ter-Minasyan, Director of the city’s Berlin Art Hotel, explained at a press conference on Wednesday.
The organizers of the festival intend to turn Gyumri’s Vardanants Square into a big open-air café during that day. They have already reached initial agreements with the business operators of the area. The objective is not just in eating but holding screenings of musical films about Gyumri on the big screen.
The organizers of the festival hope that it will attract many visitors from Yerevan. Concerts with the participation of Bambir and Alexandrapol rock bands, exhibitions, as well as other interesting events are scheduled during the festival. With the limited financial resources, the organizers hope the festival will attract new sponsors.
Deputy Director of the State Tourism Committee of Armenia Mekhak Apresyan in his turn noted that the festival will be held annually.
