First session of newly-elected Armenian Parliament kicks off today
The first session of the 6th convocation of the newly-elected Armenian National Assembly (NA) has kicked off today. Pursuant to the NA Rules of Procedure, the session is chaired by the senior Member of Parliament before the new Parliament speaker is appointed. Today’s session is chaired by Knyaz Hasanov.
Armenia’s President and Catholicos of All Armenians are present at the session and delivered welcome speeches.
After the oath taking ceremony of the MPs, the acting chair of the parliament session will officially announce the total number of the newly-elected MPs, the names of the political parties and blocs and present the deputies reading out their names and surnames. Afterwards the PMs are registered.
The agenda of the first session features creating Accounts Committee, appointing the Parliament speaker and his/her three deputy speakers, establishing standing committees and well as appointing president of the standing committees.
To note, the newly-elected Parliament has 105 MPs – 58 from the Republican Party of Armenia, 31 from Tsarukyan bloc, 9 from Yelk (Exit) bloc and 7 from the ARF party.
