Number of substantial reforms conducted in Armenia due to EU support, deputy minister says
On May 18, a workshop aimed at exchanging experience on planning, management and coordination of the EU assistance was launched in Yerevan, at Doubletree by Hilton Hotel with participation of the officials from the national bodies of EU support coordination from Serbia, Ukraine, Georgia and Armenia, the Armenian Ministry of Economic Development and Investments reports.
The overall goal of the workshop is to present and discuss the coordination mechanisms and procedures of the EU support, available instruments and their implementation in the mentioned partner countries and Armenia.
The welcoming speeches were delivered during the workshop by Mr. Garegin Melkonyan, the RA First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments and Mr. Hoa-Binh Adjemian, Head of Operations Section of the EU Delegation to Armenia.
In his welcoming speech, Armenian First Deputy Minister of Economic Development and Investments Garegin Melkonyan mentioned that due to the support provided to Armenia in the framework of the European Investment Instrument, a number of substantial reforms have been conducted in number of priority areas in Armenia for over ten years, and that process is underway. He also pointed out that the Ministry of the Economic Development and Investments, as a national coordinator of the projects implemented under the European Neighbourhood Instrument, has always been consistent in ensuring that the EU support instruments are applied most effectively in all stages and directions. He also added, that the overall objective of the workshop is to contribute to the improvement of the efficiency of management of the EU assistance in Armenia both from a short-term and long-term perspectives.
Participant countries were selected based on the conducted detailed analyses of a number of countries receiving EU support. As a result, Serbia, Georgia and Ukraine were selected.
First day of the workshop was dedicated to the EU cooperation framework in general, principals of programming, monitoring and coordination of EU assistance, experience in budget support operations and existing procedures in partner countries. Participants shared experience of the national coordination unites in cooperation with EU Delegations and state institutions presenting success stories and practical advices.
During the second day of the workshop implementation and coordination of the EU support instruments (Twinning, TAIEX, SIGMA, CBC) and other projects, as well as communication and visibility practices of EU support in participating countries will be presented.
More than 40 representatives of beneficiary ministries and other state institutions, as well as European Delegation to Armenia are participating in the event.
