Six Armenian athletes to take part in European Fencing Championships
The adult fencing team of Armenia will take part in 2017 European Fencing Championships to be held in Tbilisi on 11-17 June. The coach staff of the fencing team has already revealed the names of the athletes who will represent Armenia in the championships. Artashes Madoyan, Secretary General of the Fencing Federation of Armenia, informed that six Armenian fencers will represent the country in European Fencing Championships, Panorama.am reports citing the Armenian National Olympic Committee.
“Our athletes will compete in two disciplines – Sabre and Epee. Currently we are holding trainings both together and separate from each other. Our fencers are not in bad shape. We still have time to prepare for showing our best performance,” Mr. Madoyan said, adding that they do not have great expectations from the European championship, since the Armenian athletes are rather young and the competition in the adults’ championship is strong. He also that the Armenian fencers will get great experience due to the tournament.
Fencers Emma Poghosova, Edward Ovikyan, Mikayel Ghazaryan and Razmik Vardanyan will represent Armenia in sabre discipline of the European Fencing Championships. Two other Armenian athletes Michael Hovhannisyan and Pargev Stepanyan will compete in the epee discipline.
