Increasing number of OSCE observers in NK conflict zone is a necessity – Karabakh official
An agreement has been reached to increase the number of the OSCE international observers in the Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) conflict zone up to 7. OSCE Minsk Group Russian Co-Chair Igor Popov announced about this.
Panorama.am has talked to David Babayan, Spokesman of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) Republic President, over the topic.
Mr. Babayan reminded that Karabakh is one of the initiators of the process of increasing the number of the observers, making such a proposal still 10 years ago.
“A unique situation has been created. On one hand, an agreement has been reached on increasing the number of the OSCE international observers up to 7, on the other hand Azerbaijan does not allow those people to conduct activities along the [Artsakh-Azerbaijan] contact line. That country makes absurd and illogical proposals on having OSCE representatives in Baku or in another Azerbaijani city, which will certainly make the observers’ work useless,” the official noted.
Meantime David Babayan expressed regret over the closure of the OSCE Office in Yerevan.
“In any case, increasing the number of the observers is a necessary. Witnessing the provocative and terrorist policies run by Baku, the international community tries to further strengthen the institute,” the Karabakh official concluded.
