French Ambassador to Armenia has no doubts Armenia-EU agreement will be signed
“I hope that during the Eastern Partnership Summit in Brussels in November Armenia-EU agreement will be signed,” French Ambassador to Armenia Jean François Charpentier told a press conference on Thursday.
In the Ambassador’s words, France supports and sympathizes Armenia and is one of the strong supporters of Armenia-EU talks.
“Significant efforts have been taken in that direction. We are aware that certain country were not excited with it, however that agreement is of paramount importance in terms of maintaining political balance in the region,” Charpentier noted, adding that he has no doubts that the agreement will be signed.
Speaking about the French foreign policy, Mr. Charpentier noted that profound changes should not be expected in this respect, taking into account the first speech of newly elected President Emmanuel Macron in the political arena.
Commenting on the Armenian-French relations, Charpentier noted: “They are long-lasting, deep relations and, I believe, they will remain so. We simply need to make them more dynamic and modernized.”
The Ambassador expressed regrets over the closure of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, adding that the Office conducted important and interesting activities in numerous spheres. The official also noted that OSCE Secretary General visited Armenia a few days ago and discussed the opportunities of the further cooperation during the meetings with Armenia’s top leadership.
