Everything should be done to ensure children’s right to live in a family - Minister
“Today, the warm and happy atmosphere in this orphanage is due your smiles, and I wish those smiles to never disappear from your faces,” Armenian Minister of Labour and Social Affairs said as he greeted the children of Kharberd specialized Orphanage on Thursday.
As the ministry reported in a release, Minister Asatryan’s visit came on the occasion of International Day for Protection of Children, where he watched a dances and performance staged by the resident children.
In a briefing with reporters, Minister Asatryan presented the reforms underway in the child protection sphere, saying their primary aim is to transform the child care system and orphanages into new placements, to set up child and family centers, where social-rehabilitation, psychological, pedagogical and social services will be provided.
“The more accessible and affordable alternative services are created, the easier children with special needs will be kept in families, which is exactly what the Armenian government strives to implement. Everything should be done to ensure the right of every child to live in a family,” the minister stressed.
