Armenia’s Hrant Melkumyan one of the leaders at European Chess Championship
After five rounds of European Individual Chess Championship 2017 (398 participants, 11-round Swiss system), four players lead the table with 4.5 points each. As the Olympic Committee of Armenia reports, representative of Armenia Hrant Melkumyan along with Yuri Kuzubov, Daniel Fridman, and Ivan Cheparinov shares the first four spots.
Among other representatives of Armenia Arman Pashikyna is the 20th and Gabriel Sargsyan is the 29th.
To note, European Individual Chess Championship 2017 is a qualification event for the next World Cup. According to FIDE regulations and the decision of the ECU Board, 22 participants will be qualified for the world chess tournament.
