Armenia’s deputy FM comments on NK conflict settlement process
“Today the implementation of Vienna and St. Petersburg agreements is the only matter which is being talked about,” Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Shavarsh Kocharyan told the reporters following today’s Cabinet session, commenting on the negotiation process of the Nagorno-Karabakh (NK) conflict settlement.
“It was in Vienna where this approach was developed that until an atmosphere of trust forms between the parties [to the NK conflict], it is impossible to talk about the progress in the negotiation process,” Mr. Kocharyan said.
In the minister’s words, an integral part, necessary but insufficient condition of the atmosphere of trust is the absence of gunfire and provocations. “The people must see that they [Azerbaijani forces] ate not firing any shots or making provocations. In fact, the Vienna and St. Petersburg agreements are all about it,” the official said.
Touching upon the forecasts of the political analysts and experts on the possible war renewal, Shavarsh Kocharyan said that such talks are not new.
“It is Baku that is constantly trying to swing that sword. Certainly the tension in the frontline situation raises concerns,” he added.
