International community coming to the idea of taking measures against Azerbaijan, Nalbandian says
The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs had to issue targeted statements over the Karabakh conflict ceasefire violations, as we witnessed days ago when the international mediators blamed Azerbaijan for breaking the truce, while the actions of the Armenian sides were assessed as response to Azerbaijani ceasefire violations, Armenia’s FM Edward Nalbandian stated at a joint press conference with Estonian Foreign Minister Sven Mikser in Yerevan.
Asked whether the international community may impose sanctions against Azerbaijan for its constant ceasefire violations, Nalbandian referred to the repeated appeals of the mediators, as well as the Presidents of the Co-Chairing States, also members of the UN Security Council, strongly warning against the use of force and truce violation incidents.
“Are those [statements] merely declarative? I do not think so. Azerbaijan, nonetheless, continues pretending those appeals do not refer to it, pretends it is able to ignore those statements. Azerbaijan in every way obstructs the establishment of the investigations mechanism into the ceasefire violations, although one has clear idea about the violator even without that mechanism.”
FM Nalbandian next added the international community is increasingly realizing the need to curb Azerbaijani repeated attempts to destabilize the situation in the region with far-reaching consequences not only for the region itself but in a wider context.
“I think, the international community understands the imperative of taking certain measures against a state that opposes peace, constantly threatens with use of force to solve the conflict,” Nalbandian said.
