“In the second half of the current year, Estonia will assume the presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU). We have an ambitious precedency agenda; we aim at gaining achievements in important spheres,” Estonian Foreign Minister Sven Mikser said at a joint press conference with Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian in Yerevan on June 13.

Mr. Mikser noted that the next Eastern Partnership Summit is set to take place in Brussel in November of this year, expressing hope that Armenia-EU new framework agreement will be signed during the meeting.

“We are seeking tangible, visible results in line with the expectations of the Eastern Partnership countries,” he added.

Asked whether the visa liberalization process with Armenia can be expected to be completed during Estonia’s precedency, Sven Mikser said: “I believe that the free movement of people is a crucial aspect in bringing the nations and peoples closer together. I would like to see the facilitation process of the movement of people between the EU and Armenia. Estonia is interested in a rapid completion of that process, however I cannot point out deadlines for it.”

Touching upon Armenia-Estonia relations, Mr. Mikser noted that the bilateral relations are close and friendly, with unused potential revealed in economic and trade relations. Meantime the official noted that significant achievements have been recorded in several spheres.

To note, Estonian Foreign Minister Sven Mikser on Tuesday visited Armenia at the invitation of Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian. Today Armenian and Estonian FMs have already conducted talks. Sven Mikser will be received by President of Armenia Serzh Sargsyan, Speaker of the Parliament and the Prime Minister.
