Armenia to host festival dedicated to renowned Georgian composer Giya Kancheli
On June 18-20, a festival dedicated to the famous Georgian composer, teacher, People’s Artist of the USSR, laureate of the State Prize of the USSR Giya Kancheli will be held in Armenia. Within the framework of the festival, two symphonic concerts and one chamber evening will be held in Yerevan. The works by Giya Kancheli will be performed.
As the public relations department of the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia reports, on June 18 during a concert at Aram Khachaturian concert hall “Sio” for piano, percussion and string orchestra, “Night Prayers” for string quartet and clarinet, Symphony No. 4 “In Memory of Michelangelo” will be performed. The world-famous clarinettist Julian Milkis (Canada) will perform together with the State Youth Orchestra of Armenia (artistic director and principal conductor Sergey Smbatyan).
On June 19, the Komitas Chamber Music House will host an evening of chamber music. The solo concert will feature accordionist Alexander Sevastian and clarinetist Julian Milkis. The program includes the famous works by Kancheli written for the theater and cinema.
The festival will end on June 20 with the concert at Aram Khachaturian concert hall. The State Youth Orchestra of Armenia, soloist Alexander Sevastian and the Brass Quintet of the orchestra will present the works by Giya Kancheli, which will be performed in Armenia for the first time.
