Norway Chess: Armenia’s Aronian beats Karjakin, tops table
At Round 7 of Altibox Norway Chess 2017 underway in Stavanger, Norway, Armenian GM Levon Aronian defeated Sergey Karjakin of Russia with black pieces.
As the Chess Federation of Armenia told Panorama.am, Aronian seized the initiative of the game at move 30, with the Russian GM accepting his defeat at move 41.
At this round, Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) outplayed Magnus Carlsen (Norway) and Anish Giri (the Netherlands) beat Maxime Vachier-Lagrave (France).
Anand- Nakamura and So-Caruana matches ended in draws.
After seven rounds, Armenian GM Levon Aronian solely leads the table with 5 points. Hikaru Nakamura took the second place, closely trailing the leader. Vladimir Kramnik and Anish Giri share 3-4 positions with 4 points apiece.
