6.5% GDP growth recorded in Armenia within three months in 2017, minister says
Within the first three months of the current year, 6.5% Gross domestic product (GDP) growth was registered in Armenia, Armenian Minister of Finance Vardan Aramyan told a press conference. Positively assessing the figure, the minister noted that 3.2% GDP growth target has been set for this year.
In Mr. Aramyan’s words, the growth was mainly stemmed from industry, services and the trade.
The minster noted that in January-April 2017, the economic activity index amounted to 5.7 percent, with services reflecting a 4.5 percentage points (pp) rise and industry – 2.4 pp rise. Meantime, the agriculture, construction declined in the period of five months.
The minister said that the economic activity index is not expected to decline in the coming months.
Mr. Aramyan went on adding that exports continue to exceed imports in Armenia. Within the five months, the exports index made up almost 16 percent, with imports index comprising almost 14 percent.
“This means that exports are growing faster than imports,” the minister added.
