Piotr Świtalski: EU concerned over situation on the contact line
The OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs perform a very good job in a rather difficult environment. The European Union supports their activities, Head of the EU delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski said at a discussion held on Tuesday, commenting on the latest incident on Karabakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact, when four Armenian servicemen were killed in Azerbaijani shooting.
“In a few day, in early June, EU Special Representative is set to visit Armenia. His visit confirms that we attach importance to the situation and are concerned over it. We believe that our main role is supporting the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group. Meantime we are ready to provide additional support to the peace process, including in the period following the conflict settlement.
The EU is concerned over the situation. Life losses are certainly terrible. They were young men having their entire life ahead of them. The ceasefire violation cases raise concerns, since such peace can be very fragile. Let me express solidarity with the parents of the victims. The EU believes that the peaceful development of the region and Armenia is a priority,” Mr. Świtalski said.
