Alexander Iskandaryan says quite difficult to expect breakthrough in Karabakh conflict
It remains quite infeasible to expect new developments in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict - both in the settlement process and at the Line of Contact, Director of the Caucasus Institute told a press conference on Monday.
In his words, the reason for that is due to the long-running strategy adopted by Azerbaijan to combine constant firing at the border with periodic large-scale escalations.
“The Co-Chairs [of the Minsk Group], the international community are unable to halt that, since the political levers are scarce, while financial pressures are inefficient against oil-reach Azerbaijan,” Iskandaryan explained.
Moving on the casualties on both sides, Iskandaryan said: “Azerbaijanis on the whole suffer more human losses. Amid the crackdown on the freedom of speech, all-around censorship, and repressions against the media in Azerbaijan there is little chance to expect much changes in the existing situation,” Iskandaryan said.
