Golden Apricot Festival announces official selection
The official selection of Golden Apricot 14th International Film Festival (GAIFF) was announced on Monday. GAIFF Programme Director Michael Stamboltsyan told a press conference, informing out of 1100 film submissions from 96 countries 47 films will be vying in the three main competition sections: International Feature Competition (12 films), International Documentary Competition (16 films) and Armenian Panorama National Competition (19 films).
Stamboltsyan, in particular, pointed to number of good films from Georgia, as Khibula
by George Ovashvili among them, adding also the geography of the submissions varying from the Czech Republic to India.
16 films are competing in the International Documentary Competition this year.
“Documentaries are mainly about the human fate and the struggle to maintain human dignity. We have both premiers as well as number of award-winning films,” Deputy Director of the Festival Ara Khanjyan said, adding two Armenian films - “Trial” by
Ara Mnatsakanyan and “Those from the Shore” by Tamara Stepanyan are in the list.
Coordinator at the Festival programs Raffi Mobvsisyan presented the films of the Armenian Panorama National Competition. In his words, 80 per cent of the submitted 19 films are premiers along with several well-known works such as Mher Mkrtchyan’s
“The Line”, Kris Avedissian’s “Donald Cried,” Edgar Baghdasaryan’s “Simon's Way,” etc.
To Note Golden Apricot 14th International Film Festival will be held from July 9-16.
