Karabakh conflict cannot be settled through large-scale war – defense minister
Armenia’s Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan is convinced that the Nagorno Karabakh (NK) conflict cannot be settled through a large-scale war.
At a press conference on Wednesday, Mr. Sargsyan highlighted that there cannot be such a development of war operations resulting in a pro-Azerbaijani settlement to the Karabakh conflict.
“On the contrary, there is a great risk that the large-scale war can cause irreparable damages to the Azerbaijani state and its economy. Meantime, I do not diminish the threats that a large-scale war may pose to Armenia. However, it would be foolish for Azerbaijan’s military-political leadership to consciously undertake large-scale military operations,” Vigen Sargsyan said.
In the minster’s words, the mentioned does not rule out the possibility of escalations and targeted attacks.
“A country like Azerbaijan that lacks civic and democratic control, can take such decisions more easily. We must always be ready: we have no other option. Such a threat cannot disappoint us to the point that we abandon the prospect to defend our country and security and build it in a peaceful environment. We should get used to living amid the current regional situation, enhancing our security and progress in all the spheres. This is the only way to have a powerful country,” the minister underlined.
