It is inappropriate for Russia to supply arms to Turkey – Former Ukrainian Ambassador to Armenia
It is at last inappropriate for Russia, a strategic ally to Armenia, when that country’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Rogozin announces about the possibility of Russian arms sales to Turkey, Former Ukrainian Ambassador to Armenia Alexander Bozhko said in an interview with Panorama.am.
“Eventually Russia is Armenia’s ally and should take into account some of the concerns of the Armenian side, as well as the possible developments of events. Armenia’s approach toward that stance adopted by Russia is certainly an internal affair of Armenia. Your country has relevant structures which can demonstrate a clear approach and evaluate the possibility of arms supplies to Turkey,” the former Ambassador highlighted.
Asked which is more dangerous – the arms deliveries to Turkey or Azerbaijan by Russia – our interlocutor said that both of them pose equal threats.
“However there is one factor here. Being a NATO member, Turkey’s arms usage is controlled by the Alliance. Certainly, Turkey not always acts in line with the NATO’s opinion,” Mr. Bozhko said.
In the Ambassador’s words, Russia has interests in various regions and closely follows the political developments. Iraqi Kurdistan’s referendum scheduled this fall is also not an exception.
“Since Armenia and Russia are strategic allies, I do not rule out that the sides will conduct bilateral talks over the Kurdish issue,” Alexander Bozhko concluded.
