Mock emergency response drill staged at Yerevan metro station
Over one hundred members of the Armenia Police departments, the Karen Demirchyan Yerevan Metro, fire brigades, paramedics and rescue groups of the Armenian Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES) participated in a training exercise, simulating the aftermath of an explosion in the Republican Metro station in Yerevan on Saturday.
The MES Minister Davit Tonoyan watched the exercise which came as a routine training operation.
According to the scenario, the simulated explosion took place in the metro station, resulting in a fire broken out in a train and 4 fake wounded. Emergency response groups of the MES alerted the fire and medical brigades as well as the police.
Medics rushed down to the platform to provide first medial aid and evacuate the wounded on stretchers out of the station. The second stimulation was an explosion in the train itself.
The aim of the drill was to check the preparedness of the MES and metro staff along with security agencies in the wake of an unforeseen disasters. It also tested the coordination between multiple stakeholders during emergency situations.
