The Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival this year continues to cooperate with a number of foreign missions in Armenia, reports Panorama.am.

German Film Day will be held within the framework of 14th Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival in cooperation with the German Embassy to Armenia and Goethe Institute. It will be opened with Fatih Akin’s Palme d'Or nominated film “In the Fade”. Six German films are featured in different programs of the festival.

“Golden Apricot Yerevan Film Festival has a high quality. We are pleased to support this film festival this year as well,” Matthias Kiesler, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Germany to Armenia, told a press conference on Monday.

He noted that the German Embassy to Armenia and Goethe Institute have supported the film festival starting from 2004.

Alex Bortolan, the cultural advisor of the French Embassy in Armenia, present at the conference, noted that starting from the second year they have taken part in the Golden Apricot Film festival, presenting numerous films.

The competition and non-competition programs of the festival this year feature 10 films of French production. “Amant Double” by François Ozon (France) from Cannes Film Festival main competition will be screened in the sidelines of Yerevan Premiers.

In Alex Bortolan’s words, a tribute will be paid to the memory of one of the most renowned French film directors – Jean-Pierre Melville – within the festival, with this year marking his 100th birth anniversary.

The French Film Day will be kicked off with the screening of “Red Circle” by Jean-Pierre Melville. Other four films by the director will also be screened within the festival.

Polish Film Day will be held in the framework of non-competition program of the festival in cooperation with the Embassy of Poland in Armenia.

Meline Yeghoyan, officer of Cultural Affairs of the Embassy of Poland to Armenia, said that the Polish Film Day is dedicated to the great master of Polish cinema, Andrzej Wajda, who passed away last year. He was supposed to visit Yerevan last year to collect the Parajanov Thaler Award for his artistic contribution to world cinema. Awarding him with his prize posthumously and screening his last film “Afterimage” (Poland) will be a way of paying tribute to his memory.

Ms. Yeghoyan noted that the Golden Apricot Film Festival has reached a high level and enjoys popularity not only in the region but also in the world.

14th Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival will be held on 9-16 July.
