Red Cross representatives meet with Armenian captive held in Azerbaijan
The representatives of the Baku delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have met with Zaven Karapetyan, an Armenian citizen held captive in Azerbaijan, the ICRC Armenian office press representative Zara Amatuni told Panorama.am.
She noted that the visit was paid on July 1, refusing to provide other details.
To remind, on June 21 the Azerbaijani defense ministry reported that the Armenian forces allegedly attempted a subversive attack and suffered losses, while the one was held captive. Later, a footage was released, showing interrogation of a man it described as an Armenian intelligence officer identified as Zaven Hovhannes Karapetyan, who was telling about himself and his task. Spokesperson of Armenia’s defense ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan labelled the video recording as a ‘cheap theatre’ in an interview with Panorama.am.
Armenia’s defense ministry officially refuted the disinformation disseminated by the Azerbaijani media, noting that Zaven Karapetyan did not serve in the Armenian Armed Forces due to suffering from mental illness.
