Ambassador Świtalski says EU will continue to support development of civil society in Armenia
A discussion titled “Civil Society for Development” was held on Tuesday in Yerevan, Armenia, with the funding of the Delegation of the European Union to Armenia. The event aimed at bringing together Armenian and Polish representatives of private, public and civil sectors and establishing ties between them.
“The EU will continue to strongly support the civil society in Armenia, creating new opportunities for the NGOs. This is one of our priorities,” Head of the Delegation of the EU to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski said at today’s discussion.
Mr. Świtalski expressed hope that the Polish delegation present at the meeting will manage to share its experience of the NGOs and local governances to the Armenian side. In the Ambassador’s words, the local governance is succeeded in Poland and Armenia can learn a lot from the country. He added that the developed NGOs are one of the milestones in Poland.
Following his welcome speech, Mr. Świtalski handed over certificates to the representatives of 17 Armenian NGOs represented in the framework of the STRONG CSO Program Small Grants Scheme.
Andrzej Parafiniuk, President of the Podlaska Regional Development Foundation of Poland, in his turn noted that the programs aimed at strengthening the civil society in Armenia consist of three stages and will proceed until September 2018. The budget of the project totals to 2.7 million euros.
