Baku’s actions are conditioned by upcoming G20 summit – Armenian analyst comments on July 4 Azerbaijani provocation
The ceasefire violations made by Azerbaijan at various directions of the Artsakh-Azerbaijan Line of Contact on July 4 should be views in the context of a series of international events, political analyst Alexander Iskandaryan, Director of the Yerevan-based Caucasus Institute, said in an interview with Panorama.am.
Mr. Iskandaryan noted that the July 4 Azerbaijani provocation may be conditioned by such upcoming events, as the G20 summit, the Putin-Tramp meeting, as well as the possible meeting between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
“I believe this mainly stems from the upcoming meeting between Putin and Tramp. Moreover, this is not the first time Azerbaijan acts in this way. That country took similar steps previously, for example, during Clinton's visit. Azerbaijan overestimates the importance of such actions carried out by the country in the framework of international processes. However this time they faced retaliatory actions by the Armenian side, which was rather harsh,” he noted.
In the political analyst’s words, following the retaliation by the Armenian side along the line of contact, Azerbaijan is currently carrying out a rather active information campaign.
“I should state that currently it goes beyond the usual information campaigns. They evidently try to somehow legitimize the steps taken before or the ones they intend to take,” Alexander Iskandaryan added.
