Defense Ministry: Artsakh Armed Forces continue to maintain full control over frontline situation
Within 2-8 July, increased tension was observed along the Line of Contact between Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (Artsakh/NKR) and Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani side made more than 300 ceasefire breaches, applying 60mm, 82mm and 120mm mortars, D-44 cannons and grenade launchers at various directions of the Contact Line, the press service of the Artsakh Defense Ministry reports in a released statement.
“It is noteworthy that for the first time since the 2016 April war, the Azerbaijani forces fired 122mm D-30 howitzer artillery, as well as multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) of the TR-107 type in the southern direction of the Line of Contact, targeting Artsakh positions. Deploying the above-mentioned multiple launch systems near the Alakhlu village, the Azerbaijani armed forces, as a matter of practice, sheltered behind its civilian population, using the latter as a human shield, which is a flagrant violation of the norms of the international law.
Exercising its full right to self-defense, the Artsakh Defense Army was forced to take retaliatory actions to suppress the Azerbaijani firing spot deployed near the peaceful settlement.
The Defense Army of Karabakh continues to maintain full control over the frontline situation and confidently fulfil the military tasks set before it,” the statement reads.
