Canadian filmmaker Sophie Goyette does not rule out possibility of shooting film in Armenia
Still Night, Still Light film by Canadian filmmaker Sophie Goyette is included in the Feature Competition section of the 14th Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival. The film has won Bright Future Award at 2017 Rotterdam IFF.
“One of the most important things is that I am independent in the filmmaking process. Being independent can sometimes be difficult, meantime it enables you to do whatever you want,” Sophie Goyette said at a news conference on Thursday.
The film has been shot in three countries within 17 days. As the director says, it tells about hope, faith and a vision for the future. “When creating the film, the greatest driving force for me was that sometimes we experience moments of despair in life in terms of personal, professional or working matters. And how it can be possible for a man not to lose hope in spite of the happenings in the past, to find strength inside him and embark on new paths,” she noted.
Asked whether there is a possibility that she may shoot a film in Armenia one day, Sophie Goyette said: “I like travelling. I am open to the entire world. One day I may shoot a film in Armenia, Georgia or in other countries, why not? I set no limits before me in this respect.”
Speaking about her participation in the film festival, the Canadian filmmaker said that the festivals are number one force to help a film to find its audience.
“The festival path is very important. Taking part in each festival enables you to attract new audience and present your film,” Ms. Goyette added.
