Armenia’s Ombudsman voices concerns over Azeri shelling of Armenian villages in phone call with representative of CoE Commissioner for Human Rights
Arman Tatoyan, Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, held a telephone conversation on Monday with the representative of the Commissioner for Human Rights of the Council of Europe (CoE) over the shelling of the bordering villages of Armenia’s Tavush Province by the Azerbaijani military on 20-22 July.
As the Ombudsman’s Office told Panorama.am, Mr. Tatoyan voiced concerns that the Azerbaijani armed forces are especially targeting the civilians and their property, shelling the schools, kindergartens and houses of the villages, especially at the times of the day when there is a greater likelihood of hurting the villagers.
The Ombudsman noted that the international community must publically condemn the targeted shelling of the civilians.
Upon the agreement reached between the Human Rights Defender of Armenia and the Office of the CoE Commissioner for Human Rights, the reports on the recent Azeri shelling of bordering Chinari and Barekamavan villages located at Armenia’s Tavush Province, as well as the consequences of the Azerbaijani actions will be summed up and submitted to the Commissioner.
