Renowned Armenian reciter, anchor Vera Hakobyan dies at 89
Renowned Armenian reciter and anchor Vera Hakobyan died on Monday aged 89. The requiem service of the Armenian artist will be held on Tuesday, from 18:00 to 20:00 (address: 3 Aygedzor Street, Yerevan, Armenia). The last farewell to Vera Hakobyan is scheduled at the Komitas Chamber Music Hall on July 26 (12:00-13:00), the Ministry of Culture reports.
Born in 1928, Vera Hakobyan studied at Acting Faculty of Yerevan State Theatrical Institute (currently Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography), meantime specializing in stage art. In 1951, she started working at the State Committee of Television and Radio.
In 1980s, Vera Hakobyan recited the poems by Mushegh Ishkhan, a Diaspora-Armenian writer. Starting from 1972, after a solo concert trip to Lebanon with Bella Darbinyan (Armenian singer), she regularly held concerts in different Armenian majority communities of the Diaspora to spread the spirit and high art of the Armenian poetry. She worked at the Public Radio of Armenia for a long time.
