“As of July 1, 2017, Armenia’s permanent population comprises for 2, 979,900 people – 6200 people less compared to the period up to January 1, which is based on the negative net migration rate and natural growth rates,” Karine Kuyumjyan, Head of Population Census and Demography Division of Armenia’s National Statistical Service, told a news conference on Monday, briefing on the initial demographic indicators regarding the first half of 2017.

In the expert’s words, the negative net migration rate amounted to -8700 people, with the natural growth rate comprising for 2500 people.

The number of the permanent residents reduced by over 15,000 compared to the same period of the previous year.

7234 marriages were registered in Armenia in the first six months of 2017, showing a 6.5 percent decline as compared to the indicated period of 2016 (7739 marriages).

1949 divorce cases were recorded in the country within the six-month period, rising by 11.2 percent to compare with the same period of the past year (1753 divorce cases).
