Iran’s president instructs ministry to implement agreement on joint use of Meghri-Norduz border gates: expert
“Iran’s President Hasan Rouhani has signed an order, instructing the country’s ministry of economic affairs and finance to implement the agreement on the joint use of Meghri-Norduz border gates, which has recently been approved by Iran's Guardian Council, after being endorsed by Iran Majlis (parliament),” expert on Iranian studies Armen Israyelyan wrote on Facebook.
In his words, it is noteworthy that an advisor to the Iranian president paid a working visit to Armenia on the same day Hasan Rouhani signed the order. The Iranian official and Armenia’s minister of economic development and investments today discussed several issues related to the free economic zones between Iran and Armenia, as well as cooperation in tourism and industry sectors between the two states.
Earlier Mr. Israyelyan informed that the law on joint use of Meghri-Norduz border gates entered into force on 14 August, with the Guardian Council announcing it does not contradict the country’s constitution.
To remind, the agreement on using a joint border crossing linking Iran’s Norduz to Armenia’s Meghri was signed in on December 21, 2016 during the Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to Armenia.
