Airfares to drop drastically in second half of September, official says
The increase in the ticket prices of flights en route from Armenia to Russia is linked with high demand than the one expected, Sergey Avetisyan, Head of the General Department of the Civil Aviation, told reporters following the Cabinet meeting on Thursday.
“In case of the increased demand, the airlines try to give an operative solution to the issue. This is a continuous process. We are in constant contact [with airlines], today as well we are expecting certain response in terms of additional flights,” he said.
Mr. Avetisyan highlighted the need to understand that an airline should have a free aircraft in order to operate an additional flight.
Regarding the capacity of the Civil Aviation department to influence the price policy, the official said: “We have always stated that we do not have a direct impact on the price policy. We can affect it indirectly by providing increased competition.”
Sergey Avetisyan also added that the airfares will drop drastically in second half of September. “They will certainly fall by two-three times. This points to high level of tourism seasonality,” he added.
