Many tourists visit Armenia to take part in barbecue fest, tourism committee official says
“The barbecue festival can already be considered an international event in terms of both the foreign pavilions and a high number of tourists, who arrive in Armenia to take part in the festival,” Mekhak Apresyan, First Deputy Chairman of the State Committee for Tourism, told a press conference on Friday.
To remind, the 9th Barbecue Festival is scheduled for Akhtala (Lori region) on 20 August.
Mr. Apresyan underscored that the festival is one of the unique events held in Armenia for which special tour packages are offered in Russia, Belarus, Georgia and Ukraine.
“An unprecedented interest in observed towards this festival. We step-by-step achieve all the goals set in the front of us. The fact that Lori is turning into a tourist destination comes to show that the festival has succeeded,” said Sedrak Mamulyan, Chairman of the Preservation and Development of Armenian Culinary Traditions NGO, present at the meeting.
He informed that the competition program of the festival will begin at 11:00, with its cultural part to kick off at 13:00.
According to Mr. Mamulyan, Armenia can be stated to hold a leading position in the region in terms of culinary festivals.
Andre Simonyan, who is responsible for the artistic part of the festival, noted that the cultural section will be under spotlight. “The cultural program consists of two parts: the first one features performances of old Armenian songs in new interpretations. During the second part, fold songs will be performed by Arsen Grigoryan, Davit Amalyan, Leyla Saribekyan and Mkrtich Mkrtchyan,” he added.
