‘It is another attempt to clarify the stances of the parties’ – political analyst comments on upcoming meeting of Armenian-Azeri FMs
“The rumors that Armenia has dropped out of NATO military drills amid the Russian pressure are simply an opinion. The problem is whether there are arguments supporting these allegations. Others claim that Armenia did not take part in the military exercises slated for Georgia since Azerbaijan is among its participants, which is also another view,” Yerevan-based political scientist Alexander Markarov told a news conference on Tuesday.
Reflecting on the upcoming meeting between the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan, the speaker noted that it is another attempt to clarify the stances adopted by the parties. He also predicted that the meeting cannot mark any major breakthrough in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
“The search for a settlement to the [Karabakh] conflict has continued for more than two decades. It is known that a satisfactory solution of the conflict has not been found yet, with the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs seeking to at least implement the reached agreements,” the political scientist said.
Mr. Markarov highlighted the failure of the OSCE Minsk Group to give targeted responses to the Azerbaijani aggression, including the shooting by the Azeri military during the monitoring conducted by the OSCE Mission only encourages the aggressor.
